Thank you for visiting our Web site! My husband and I were relocated here by Hewlett Packard/Agilent in 1984 at a time when Home Care was not widely known about and very few agencies existed. I had graduated from Johns Hopkins Hospital School of Nursing and then after working in Public Health, Pediatrics and Obstetrics, I returned to Johns Hopkins to further my education. A movement had started in health care of training nurses to expand their roles and I entered their Pediatric Nurse Practitioner program. After practicing as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner back east for 14 years, we found ourselves relocated to beautiful Sonoma county, but with me unable to find work in this field. Unable to find work in my field, I decided to try home care and was hired as the Director of Nurses for a new franchise providing home care services. One of only three companies at the time, I learned first hand what a difference quality, and often high tech home care services could mean to a client and their family.
Needless to say, I was hooked! Not only did I develop services for frail elderly clients at home, I was able to use my extensive pediatric experience to begin high tech, but high touch services to medically fragile kids at home. I took home the first child on a ventilator in Northern California and now at any given time we work with over 40 clients that would otherwise have a very small chance of surviving at home. At this same time, the Bay Area found itself in the midst of an AIDS epidemic and I began the first home care service for AIDS patients at home. We worked with both Face to Face and one of our local Hospice organizations to better meet the needs of our patients. While home care began to grow by leaps and bounds, we found that most things were possible at home and patients or clients did so much better.
After starting a number of branch offices for national home care companies, I opened my own agency in 1998. I wanted to make a difference for people at home and not have to answer to corporate executives in another state who could not possibly know what was best for their clients in Sonoma County. I wanted to be able to provide a personal approach to clients and employees using my nursing background. I wanted an agency that was founded by a nurse, supervised by a nurse and based on nursing principles. I wanted my caregivers to be ones I would not hesitate to send to my own family members. Today, I own three companies that provide a wide variety of services and employ a large group of Sonoma County residents.
I truly believe in being involved in the community and have taken on an active role in my own community. I am a Charter member of the Windsor Rotary Club and an active member of our State Home Care Association, CAHSAH, sitting on both a state committee for licensed Home Care and also one that deals with Home Care Aide Services. In 2014 at the CAHSAH Conference I was awarded the “Concierge of the Year Award”. I work with both the Santa Rosa Junior College and Sonoma State University to promote their nursing programs while providing clinical sites for their students.
